It Has Been Raining

Have I mentioned that it’s been raining?

There are trout streams I know that start out like that. They cut down into the canyon, and once joined by a couple little tributaries, turn into beautiful little rivers, with riffles and rapids and plunge pools and back eddies. These are places where the trout are opportunistic and so the the fly angler goes in with a selection of big showy dry flies, like the Royal Wulff, which imitates nothing but is impressionistic, perfect for the fast roiling waters.

“Impressionistic” to describe a trout fly is impressive, anchovy. I loved that. There are good trout streams in Mexico, but none around here that I know of. I certainly have eaten several good trout here. “Trucha.”
