After one day’s drive straight north, one is still on the central plateau of Mexico. Near Matehuala in the northern part of the state of San Luis Potosí is some isolated country that is very appealing.
At the foot of the mountains is the Valle del Salado, a great place to camp.
In the evening.
Or in the early morning.
Catorce train station is at the edge of Valle de Salado at the foot of the mountains. A small village surrounds it.
Then one takes a little mountain road up.
There is another great little colonial silver mining town on the side of the mountain up there called Real de Catorce.
Higher above Real de Catorce is Quemado, the sacred mountain of the Huichol.
There. I wanted to put something up here before I went to bed in case my mother visits. I did not want the first thing that she sees to be bad erotica.
